  4. Fever with cold symptoms. Please advise.

Fever with cold symptoms
My son is 6.6 yrs old. He is having fever since last 4 days. Started with high fever of 102.3 F. It comes down when I give him paracetamol. After one day of fever, he complained of sore throat and had mild cough for 2 days. Now since last 2 days he is having a running nose and also sneezing. But fever is hovering around 100-101 F. Please advise.

Most fevers in children are viral in origin and take 3-7 days to subside completely. Give just steam inhalations for cold and cough and decongestant nasal drops for nasal block or increased cough on lying down. Use paracetamol for fever and repeat every 4 hours if required. If not improving OR accompanied by other symptoms like vomiting or loose motions or coughing and breathlessness or dullness and refusal to feed,consult your paediatrician asap.
