Feet swelling in diabetics is usually from salt intake, standing long, kidney issues, heart issues, or low protein, not sugar alone.
Do NOT start any medicine on your own.
Instead, do this first for 2–3 days:
Reduce salt
Keep feet elevated
Check BP, check urine for protein
If swelling continues or increases → get tests: kidney function (KFT), urine test, ECG.
It is important to know the cause of swelling and treat the underlying cause.
First share a detailed history, is swelling pitting, mild or more, does it persist or disappear after few hours, does he have breathlessness on exertion or any other associated symptoms? What meds he is taking? Certain antidiabetic meds like pioglitazone, can cause leg swelling.
Get his urine for albuminurea, kidney function tests, X ray chest done and share results.
Then I can help him to recover.

Good day to you sir
I understand your concern and it's good to know that you are vigilant about your father's health and well being and provide him support during these difficult years. I shall try to the best of my abilities to consult you
Feet swelling is a common symptom often associated with diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, infection, liver diseases and many other illnesses
Given your father's age and limited history I would like to ask two questions which can help narrow towards the diagnosis
# When was he first diagnosed with diabetes
# Does he have any other illnesses such as high cholesterol, raised BP?
It will require extensive workup (history, investigations) to rule out multiple possible causes and discover the root cause followed by designing the appropriate treatment plan
As this extent of consultation is not feasible via this platform
If you feel I can be of better service to you
Feel free to book a one to one consultation via the practo app
