Dear Doctors,
For almost a week I have been having constant feeling of fullness and breathlessness after every meals and after anything I eat . It doesn't go away even after having antacid. It stays for hours. Sometimes it subsides after I take my statin/betablocker. I have lumps on the left side of my abdomen. What to do to make this go away ? Why is this hours of breathlessness happening after every meals ? Please help and guide me

Hello 👋
I’ve gone through your symptoms carefully — the breathlessness and fullness after meals, lasting for hours and not improving even with antacids, need to be assessed in detail. Since you’re already on statin and beta-blocker, it’s important to consider both gastric and cardiac causes.
Here are the likely possibilities:
Gastroesophageal reflux with bloating (GERD + gastritis): Gas accumulation after meals can push the diaphragm upward, making it hard to breathe.
Hiatal hernia: Common in your age group, where part of the stomach moves up through the diaphragm, causing fullness, chest heaviness, and breathlessness after food.
Medication side-effect: Beta-blockers can sometimes worsen gastric motility and cause mild breathing discomfort.
Cardiac or abdominal pressure component: If the “lumps” on the left side are swelling or enlarged spleen/lipoma, that too can cause fullness and pressure symptoms.
What you should do immediately:
Eat small, frequent meals — avoid overeating.
Don’t lie down for 2–3 hours after food.
Avoid tea, coffee, oily foods, and late-night dinners.
Continue your cardiac medications but get a cardiac review + upper abdomen ultrasound done.
For now, you may take Pantoprazole 40 mg before breakfast and Simethicone syrup after meals for symptom relief until proper evaluation.
Your symptoms are treatable, but since you have both heart and stomach-related factors, a detailed review of your ECG, echo, and abdominal scan is needed to identify the exact cause and tailor treatment accordingly.

Breathlessness is a symptom to be addressed. Probably something pertaining either with the heart or lungs. Thereby a cardiac workout is necessary, atleast as simple as ECG is needed for further evaluation along with history.
