Tympanic membrane surgery is a very basic ENT Surgery and is taught in the very 1st year of ENT training. There are many situations where small clinical procedures will suffice to heal a ruptured eardrum. It takes a surgeon to decide when to operate, but it takes an exceptional surgeon to decide when NOT TO OPERATE.
