"I am currently searching for a marriage partner, and I have certain clear expectations. I want a fair relationship and completely refuse to live under patriarchy. I consider myself an average-looking person. However, because I am 28, my parents believe I should just get married 'somehow' to settle down. Adding to this pressure, my brother constantly body-shames me. He claims that 90% of society is patriarchal, and the remaining 10% who believe in equality will only look for highly attractive women for love marriages. This toxic environment makes me want to run away from home.
While I am financially independent and have a job, I struggle deeply with emotional independence. Their harsh thoughts and constant threats to throw me out of the house terrify me. Yet, when I tried leaving before, I faced severe loneliness, anxiety, and panic. I am completely at a loss on how to handle this situation.

Your desire for equality is completely valid. Family pressure and body-shaming can severely damage self-esteem, making emotional independence difficult. Building internal strength is key to overcoming this distress.

Hi
To me it looks like you’re under a lot of pressure from both your family and the marriage process. Constant criticism, body-shaming, and threats can understandably affect your confidence and make it harder to trust your own decisions. Wanting an equal, respectful relationship is a valid expectation, and you don’t have to give up your values because of your age or external pressure.
Since you describe feeling trapped at home but also overwhelmed when living independently, working with a psychologist can help you build emotional independence, strengthen your self-confidence, and develop healthy boundaries while managing anxiety. If the threats at home ever make you feel unsafe, consider reaching out to a trusted friend, relative, or local support service for help.

What you are describing sounds emotionally exhausting. Constant pressure, body shaming, and fear of being forced into marriage can affect your confidence and emotional well-being. Being financially independent is a strength, but emotional independence often takes time to develop. You do not have to compromise your core values or settle into a relationship that does not align with your beliefs because of external pressure.

Hi...A clouded mind perceives everything in a negative loop. Try to understand this, you are experiencing a typical approach-avoidance conflict. On one hand you hold close your beliefs (patriarchy) and on the other hand you don't want to be left alone. You are aware of the possibility that this approach might lead you into a bad marriage or loneliness in the long term. You are constantly being made aware of these things by your family and it is all taking a huge toll on your mental health. You want things to change but you are unsure if anything will change or not. Let me tell you that it is a loop in your thought process that is making you believe that there is no end to it. But in real, these are only life challenges that most people overcome with little support, guidance, and an accomodating approach. Marriage is a social institutions and if two people come into a martial relationship, they are choosing to raise a family together. It is not like a typical marriage that is portrayed in movies but it is also not as bad as it is portrayed in news channels/papers. Real marriages exist somewhere in-between and if you choose wisely and do it with a right approach, you will also have a good partner and a family that you raise together. In marriage, men and women seek very different things and it is not always the same. Different people find different things valuable in different phases of their lives. And, if you are able to attend to your insecurities well, you will also be able to find a good partner and raise a healthy family.

Hi, thank you for sharing your concerns. It must be emotionally overwhelming for you to deal with family pressure, body shaming, and constant criticism at the same time. As you shared, you have your own expectations about marriage and equality, but not feeling understood or supported by your family can increase stress, anxiety, and self-doubt.
It is a positive step that you are financially independent. At the same time, emotional independence also develops gradually with the right support. Body shaming and repeated negative comments can affect self-confidence and mental well-being. You do not have to handle this alone. I would suggest you consult a counselling psychologist who is trained in CBT. Therapy can help you build self-confidence, manage anxiety, set healthy boundaries, and take one step at a time towards the life you want. Take care.
