Hello,
Yes you can check the sugars at home with a glucometer. There are lots of glucometers available in the market.Check fasting sugar level i.e.without having even tea or coffee. There should be 10 to 12 hrs gap between your dinner and checking blood sugar. Then check post prandial blood sugar one and half hour after breakfast.
FBS. should be less than 90mg% & PPBS shold be less than 130mg% for a nondiabetic. person. If these levels are crossing 90 mg% & 130 mg% it is giving you a warning signal to take care..If these levels are crossing 100mg% & 140 mg% then you are in prediabetic stage. This is a crucial stage. If you take precautions like eating in time, avoiding any type of sugars at this stage you can prevent diabetes and its complications for few more years. If FBS is crossing 119mg% and PPBS is above 199mg% then you are a full blown diabetic i.e already damage started in the body.Remember by the time you come to know that you are a diabetic 50-60% cells of pancreatic cells secreting insulin are destroyed. So you should take care to preserve the remaining 40-50% cells by eating in time,in small amounts at regular intervals.Doing regular exercise.

Wish you a healthy living.
