Early insulin resistance
Hi, Age - 31, Male My HBA1C trend: * 2023 - 6.0 * 2024 - 5.8 * 2025 - 5.4 * 2026 August - 5.7 * 2026 September - 5.7 Fasting sugar always 90–99 mg/dL. Average blood glucose around 117 mg/dL. Recently I did fasting insulin in September - 16 uU/mL. Calculated HOMA-IR - above 3. My question is: Is this a sign of early insulin resistance? I have a BMI of 20. How can I reverse it if it is early insulin resistance? My parents and grandparents are diagnosed with T2DM.

Your HbA1c of 5.7% is in the prediabetes range, but HOMA-IR alone does not diagnose diabetes or determine treatment; fasting insulin tests vary between laboratories. The falling earlier values are encouraging, while family history increases your long-term risk. This can often be improved with consistent lifestyle measures rather than starting medicines solely on this result.
Next Steps
Repeat HbA1c and fasting glucose with your physician; an oral glucose tolerance test may clarify the picture if needed. Aim for regular exercise, resistance training, high-fibre whole foods, good sleep and avoiding sugary drinks; do not self-start metformin. Discuss the reports in a Practo consult or visit Synergy Multispeciality Hospital, Miraj.
