Greetings 3.5-month-old infant experiencing sudden, severe left ear pain at 2:00 AM accompanied by a mild cold and watery, yellow fluid draining from the ear canal. The presence of drainage strongly suggests a ruptured eardrum from an acute middle ear infection, or potentially an outer ear infection, which requires immediate evaluation by a pediatrician. Because the baby is under 6 months old, you must avoid over-the-counter ibuprofen entirely; child-strength acetaminophen may be given for pain relief, but you must consult a pediatrician
