Discharge is usually when there is perforation to the ear drum. During the cold there is a high chance of infection accumulated in the middle ear which pops out as discharge. Treatment varies from the amount of perforation. An close examination is recommended by a ENT practionner for exact treatment options Hope this helps Regards Vijay Kumar
