Delusional disorder can be very well managed with medications - by primarily a group of drugs called antipsychotics. Maybe symptoms could reduce within 2-3 days but definitely not get cured within 2-3 days. It will require sustained medication use. Cannot exactly say how many days or weeks or months. Course depends from person to person.

As per your query, duration of delusional disorder for diagnosis may be 2-3 days as sometimes family member does not able to recognise it in initial phase, when individual starts to act and react to his delusion, family members notice Second, it is completely curable once treatment started as soon as illness get recognised and maintain follow up visits regularly at least once a month so that symptoms that have been remained or new symptoms that arise can be targeted

Next Steps
Detailed evaluation of the patient is needed to diagnose correctly and for further management

Delusional disorder is a psychiatric condition where a person strongly believes in things that are not grounded in reality, despite clear evidence to the contrary. These beliefs are usually non-bizarre (things that could happen in real life) but are fixed and resistant to reasoning. The duration of the illness is not typically short. In fact, according to diagnostic criteria, for a diagnosis of delusional disorder to be made, the symptoms must persist for at least one month. A duration of only 2 to 3 days is highly unlikely unless it is part of an acute transient psychotic episode or triggered by substance use or extreme stress. If the symptoms resolve in a few days, it’s more likely to be classified under a different short-term psychotic condition, not classical delusional disorder.
Next Steps
You should arrange for your cousin to be evaluated by a psychiatrist immediately. Early intervention makes a significant difference in psychotic conditions. If this is a first episode, the psychiatrist will rule out medical causes (like infections, neurological issues, or drug effects) and assess whether the delusions are part of a larger psychiatric diagnosis like schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or brief psychotic disorder. Treatment usually involves antipsychotic medications, and sometimes short inpatient care is needed to ensure safety and medication adherence. Waiting or trying to resolve it informally at home can worsen the prognosis.
Health Tips
Ensure your cousin is in a low-stimulation, calm environment—away from people who argue, confront, or challenge their beliefs directly. Do not try to reason with the delusion or prove it wrong. Instead, redirect the conversation gently and keep communication neutral and supportive. Encourage small meals, hydration, and rest, as basic body rhythms help reduce the mental chaos. If the person is refusing treatment or insight, involve close family to help convince them to attend a mental health consultation. With structured care, many individuals with delusional disorder can recover to the point of resuming normal life—but it requires medical treatment, not just time or talking.
