Yes, this is a very common symptoms of major depression disorder where your mood, thoughts, and actions get locked into a painful cycle that feeds on itself
Next Steps
If you want to break this cycle, reaching out to Dr. Rupali Mohbe, a psychologist, is a great step. You can schedule a comfortable online or offline visit through BIRDYME. Her office is located at 208, CENTRAL, Sangath IPL, Motera, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Health Tips
Use a technique called Behavioral Activation: pick one tiny, easy activity—like washing a single dish or stepping outside for two minutes—and do it even if you do not feel motivated. Action often creates the motivation, not the other way around.

Depression can definitely create a feeling of being trapped in a repetitive cycle—low mood, negative thoughts, reduced activity, poor sleep, and loss of motivation can reinforce each other. The good news is that this cycle can be broken. A proper psychiatric assessment, evidence-based treatment such as psychotherapy and/or medication when indicated, regular sleep, physical activity, social connection, and gradually rebuilding daily routines can all help. Recovery is usually a process rather than an overnight change, so consistency and professional guidance are important. If there are thoughts of self-harm or suicide, seek urgent professional help rather than dealing with it alone.

Yes, depression can sometimes feel like you’re stuck in the same loop—same thoughts, same emotions, same patterns, and the feeling that no matter what you do, nothing really changes. In therapy, we don’t simply try to “think positive.” We work on understanding the loop and slowly changing the patterns that keep it going—whether that’s constant overthinking, withdrawing from people, losing routine, self-criticism, or feeling hopeless about the future. Start small. Don’t wait to feel motivated before doing something. Sometimes action has to come first, and motivation follows. And if you’ve been feeling stuck for a while, you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. Therapy can help you understand what’s keeping you in the loop and, more importantly, learn how to step out of it. If you feel you need support, you can reach me at nine two six six seven two six zero six five.

Hi , MDD (Major Depressive disorder ) is associated with serotonin depletion ,which is our happy hormone, the one that keeps us happy and away from overthinking. When you get into in the loop of overthinking and negativity , obviously one gets the feeling of getting stuck. It's because our prefrontal cortex makes us think so due to delayed decision making and lack of cognitive clarity when a person suffers with serotonin depletion in MDD.
Next Steps
Consult a psychiatrist to know about your condition and get proper pharmacological and psychological treatment.
Health Tips
You don't need to suffer in silence.Setting a morning routine begining with physical exercises followed with mental exercises like pranayam do help .

Yes, feeling "stuck in a loop" (repetitive negative thoughts and rigid routines) is a core symptom of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Key Ways to Break the Loop: * Therapy: Psychotherapy, especially Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), helps reframe negative thought patterns and interrupt rumination. * Medication: Antidepressants prescribed by a psychiatrist can help regulate brain chemistry to lower the intensity of repetitive mental loops. * Behavioral Activation: Small physical actions—like a brief walk, changing your physical environment, or taking up a tiny task—help reset cognitive patterns. * Mindfulness & Grounding: Techniques like the 5-4-3-2-1 sensory method anchor focus back to the present moment instead of inside your head.
