Hi
Depersonalization and derealization can feel terrifying and lonely, especially when they last for a long time. Feeling unreal, restless, dizzy, exhausted, and unable to get deep sleep can slowly drain hope, even in someone who is otherwise strong and full of dreams. The memory issues you are noticing are often linked to constant anxiety, hyper-alertness, and poor sleep, not because you are “losing yourself.” Many people with DPDR feel broken because nothing seems to work, but this condition is driven more by a stuck nervous system than by permanent damage.
What truly helps is a therapy approach that focuses on calming the nervous system, reducing fear around symptoms, improving sleep regulation, and gently reconnecting you with your sense of self, rather than fighting the symptoms. Recovery is possible, even after years, but it requires the right understanding and a compassionate, consistent process. You are not weak for feeling tired now, and your life is not over. With proper support, people do return to a natural, grounded life again.
