Please consult a paediatrician before giving any medicine to a child. Diamox would need weight based dosing before administering to a child.
For adults- if you are going to a place with high altitude then 125–250 mg every 12 hours, starting 1–2 days before ascent, continue for 48 hrs at altitude.

Diamox is used for prophylaxis against Acute Mountain Sickness(AMS) or for rapid acclimatization. However concerns of allergic reaction needs to be checked before administration.
12 yrs old can use Diamox for Rapid acclimatization
Course is 125mg tab twice a day 24-48 hrs before ascent till the ascent is complete
Next Steps
he can take one tab of 250mg and wait for any reactions or adverse effects for next 24 hours. Mild headache can occur which resolves on its own. Besides that, one should be on the lookout for any other symptoms and visit nearest emergency centre if required
