My mother had fracture on knee joint..Dr.adviced to operate the knee joint for internal fixation..during routine investigations before surgery, hba1c level is 6.3,but fasting is 88 and pp is 135.Doctor advised to take insulin therapy for 3months after surgery..now she is taking insulin theraphy 8 units per day, but fasting,pp is normal.is it important insulin theraphy in this case?

Hi there.. actually hba1c of 6.3 means good control of diabetes.. there wasn't actually need for insulin therapy after surgery.. instead oral hypoglycemics agents could be started.. if there is kidney dysfunction then insulin is recommended for your mother else she can take oral tablets only for diabetes.. get hba1c and fbs, ppbs done once now and consult nearby physician or diabetologist.. according to the values they will give tablets and dosage..
