Having expertise in diabetes, I would say it's not medicine that is best for diabetes but
1. Proper diet control.i.e a diabetic diet
2. Adequate exercise suitable to your fathers health status&
Finally
3. Medicine (which depends on how long your father has been a diabetic, what is his blood work up, how is his heart, kidney condition).
