Depression and Vitamin D
I am feeling tired, Un motivated, difficulty in concentration, feeling sleepy in work place, sleep difficulty and symptoms of depression and anxiety. I am a software professional so have added stress at work. I did a priventive check up and found low vitamin D 15 ng/ml and Vitamin B12 of 297 pg/ml hemoglobin iron and calcium are fine. I snore loud and feel unfulfilled sleep but never wake in between. My wife reports me having wiggling movement during sleep. My question is my symptoms due to depression caused by Vitamin D or may be due to sleep apnea? To improve my Vitamin levels what meds should I take and is antidepressants needed

The first three symptoms are enough to tell that you are having some mood disorder. Though it will be better to diagnose if you also tell about your mood. How do you feel most of the time. Low? Also tell which symptoms came first. Difficulty in Sleep or the concentration and motivation problems. Is there anxiety? Forget about the reports. They are not related here. Depression itself causes a variety of sleep anamolies. I think you need medicines.

Today, stress is a major factor for all illnesses. Hence, work-life balance has to be maintained. Eat good  wholesome local food diet and exercise for 150 minutess per week. Start this and plan it for a week . You will see the positive changes. E ngage yourself in a hobby. It will help you ease your stress and learn a new thing too. For snoring, you can start with simple breathing exercises and sleep in the left lateral position rather than on your back. It will help reduce your snoring. Cashews are known to be natural anti-depressants. So one home remedy which you can try is as folliws:- Kaju milk :- soak 4-5 cashews in 2tbsps of milk or see that the cashews get soaked in it for 4-5 hours. At bedtime, you can pound them in a mortar-pestle(avoid mixer grinder) and add some more milk, sugar and saffron if you like and drink the milk warm or cold as per your choice. All are calmers, would help you earn good sleep.  Happy resting !

Everyone today has low vitamin d. Sleep apnea can cause depressive symptoms. Get yourself evaluated by general physician for sleep apnea. If you don't have sleep apnea problem then you need antidepressants
