Crown is done to protect ur RCT treated tooth from breaking due to chewing forces. Its advisable to get it done as soon as possible. But if u would not b able to get it done immediately, ask ur Dentist to relieve the tooth of any pressure from chewing as well as avoid chewing anything hard on that particular tooth till the crown is in place.

Crown/cap is very necessary. As the tooth gets dehydrated and would break up in future. Time is at per convenience of patient and doctor, but should be as minimum as possible... May be 15 days maximum.

Yes. In most cases it is essential to get a cap done. Duration for fabricating a cap can be as little as 2 hours and upto 1 week depending on the technology your dentist is working with. You can definitely wait a week before doing anything provided you are very careful not to overload that tooth.

As you know root canal treatment is required when the cavity in the tooth has increased and reached the pulp where nerves remain due to which pain starts. Once RCT has been done the tooth is already weak due to which dentist advices you to go for Crown. That's why Crown should be done as early as possible. There is nothing as waiting period. You should just get the crown done as early as possible. Till that time take due care of the teeth as to prevent it from high chewing forces which may result in fracture of tooth.
