Hello Doctor, my baby birth weight was 2.7 kg at 3.5 month she weighs 5.220 kg but since past four days she lost her weight and weighs 5.160 kg. She was not drinking milk at all. Because of my abscess surgery she is exclusively in formula since 27th day of her birth. We tried almost everything to feed her.. small feeds.. changing bottles.. changing bottle nipples but she did not drink at all. We finally took her to the doctor who recommended cypon after diagnosing at his clinic where also she did not drink milk even after 5 hours of going without milk. Doctor has recommended 0.5 ml drops twice daily for 2 weeks. It is day 3 of cypon she had increased appetite and is drinking milk now. She looks otherwise normal is playful and active. Only thing is has increased sleep hours. Is it okay to give
cypon drops as mentioned above?

Hello mam, I understand your concern
Your baby was gaining weight adequately
you should now try feed baby without drops , look baby is accepting or not
I will not advice an appetite stimulant at so small age
Hello, I understand your concern
This weight is within acceptable range for age. A temporary 60 g dip can happen during illness, reduced intake, bottle refusal, or feeding stress.
Nothing you described sounds alarming as long as she is active, feeding again, and gaining back her appetite.
Cypon contains Cyproheptadine, an appetite stimulant + sedative effect. Safe only under doctor’s supervision
Can temporarily increase appetite
Increased sleepiness is a common expected side effect
Should not be routinely used or continued long-term
Since your doctor examined the baby and prescribed 0.5 ml twice daily for 14 days, and she is now feeding better, more active, and improving, it is okay to continue the course as advised.
Next Steps
Offer small frequent feeds (every 2–3 hours)
Burp after every feed
Keep baby semi-upright during feeding
Avoid forcing feeds — let the baby guide the pace
Continue exclusive formula till 6 months
Health Tips
Stop and consult immediately if:
