Continuous fever in child
My 20 months old child has fever for 7 days. As prescribed by Dr, we have been giving him antibiotics and fever reducer. Initially it was said he has infected throat. He has totally lost his appetite and he still has fever on the 7th day. He has running nose and cough as well. He seems to be playing a little while he has no fever but he becomes so irritated and weak when he has fever. Xray and blood test dint partuculay find anything bad. Could you please suggest me, what could be the treatment?

Hi you need to repeat the blood test if the total counts have not improved then probably need to change the antibiotics or give IV antibiotics.

Greetings from India. From your detailed query, it appears that your child is not toxic, but still having prolonged recovery (as X-ray/blood tests are normal): reassuring fact is that he is active during afebrile periods. Please review with your local Pediatrician, as sometimes there may be poor response to first line Antibiotic (like Amoxicillin), so on review pediatrician may upgrade to second line antibiotic (like CoAmoxyclav): if bacterial secondary infection is a possibility. Also limited new workup may be required, (especially CRP/ESR)
Next Steps
Please raise the concerns of persistent fever with doctor.
Health Tips
Maintaining a temperature chart will be helpful to doctor's evaluation.Kawasaki has to be ruled out if fever is persistent.
