Hi,
My son is suffering from constipation since past one year but it has became chronic since last one month. Giving him Duphalac 10ml at night and Neogadine Mikros 5ml before meal twice a day as per local doctor prescription but today I found blood stains in his stool while wiping it off. Please prescribe proper line of medication and should I get a routine stool test done?

All his problems or due to constipation so so you should focus your attention to cure that problem .for that you have to do a lot of modifications in his diet. 1.You should give him plenty of water, that's the first thing you should give him . 2.high fibre diet that is like instead of giving fruit juices to give him raw fruits and while cooking the vegetables also you should not peel of the skin completely. these small things will add a lot of fibre to the diet.
Next Steps
if you don't find improvement with these measures you should contact a pediatrician to find out if there is any problem like an anal fissure or so.
1. If the stools were soft and child still has blood in stools, then do a stool test
2. If the child had hard stools then blood could be due to injury of mucosa while passing stools. Then stool test is not mandatory.
Next Steps
High fibre diet,no full cream milk , plenty of water , increase sugar content of food ... all this helps in treating constipated stools.

Constipation is a dietary problem. So unless you change the diet it wont go and the vicious cycle increases day by day. All medications are temporary. So follow diet strictly. Give 1.2litres of water and juices per day and banana, carrot daily. Give other fibre rich vegetables also. And see for 1 month. Mean while to help him u can use medications. Do toilet training for indian type toilets. Sometimes fecal impaction can be there which should be treated properly if not resolving with proper diet also.
Constipation requires toilet training. Make him sit on the toilet seat everyday. Hard stool causes injury at the anal area, hence the bleeding. Apply coconut oil
Next Steps
Give green leafy vegetables and fruits, banana daily, plenty of liquids. Give him a glass of warm water as soon as he wakes up. Give soaked dry grapes.
Reduce milk and biscuits
