There are certain genetic conditions which make you more prone to develop dislocations due to loose tissues. Then there is also the issue with avoiding activities which cause the dislocations. The fact that you had dislocation at such a young age, makes it very difficult to treat. Had the shoulder been investigated with an MRI scan to see if there is any structural issue? Is there something structurally which makes it easy for the shoulder to dislocate? You have had physical therapy but has it been specifically directed at stabilising your shoulder? Also have you avoided the actions which make your shoulder prone to dislocate? If all of these have been done and you still have an issue, then you may have to consider surgical intervention. I will be very vary of offering surgery considering your age. Surgery now may have other long term effects. If there is an issue with the way your joint tissues are, then surgery will not help. You will have to see a shoulder Surgeon who has experience in dealing with these conditions. Hope this helps Dr Vinu Raj MBBS MRCS FRCS (Trauma&Orthopaedics) Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
