Does cold and cough really require medicines? I don't see any improvement in cold  when I take medicines.

Cold does not require medications unless you want symptomatic relief. Most colds subside on their own. Just steam inhalation and drinking warm fluids and gargling is sufficient in most cases. Cough may or may not require medications depending on the type of cough. Most cases where you have cough and cold nothing is required. However if you're having fever or having a productive cough with yellowish sputum or you are feeling breathless, you might need medications, including antibiotics. So it varies depending on your symptoms.

Good old joke If you take medicines your common cold wiil be alright with in seven days But if you don't take medicines it will take one week to settle down Ha ha
