For your age, food getting stuck between teeth most commonly happens due to cavities between teeth. Other reason could be severe gum disease. It has to be examined visually and with radiographs if required to come to a diagnosis n treat accordingly. Consult your dentist to know the actual problem. Using a tongue cleaner for cleaning your tongue is absolutely fine and there is no issues with that.
