Sticking of food between teeth may be due some cavity & or periodontal bone loss& or gum recession. Consult a periodontist for this problem, he might advice you something need full. Tongue should be cleaned daily and is absolutely safe, but there is a certain procedure to clean it.The strokes should be from back to front and not to and fro I.e. inside out only

There are several reasons for food lodgement.   Some are Cavities in teeth,  natural spaces between the teeth,  Gum recession. For exact Suggestions,  we need some more investigations including clinical pictures and Xrays if needed, Consult nearby dentist for diagnosis. Brush twice daily especially at night. You can learn good brushing technique. Consider some good YouTube video for that. Use mouthwash 2 times a day.  For the food stuck between teeth,  you can use dental floss ( a thin specifically made rope like thing) or thermoseal proxa interdental brush. Using tongue cleaner for cleaning tongue everyday is alway preferred.

For your age, food getting stuck between teeth most commonly happens due to cavities between teeth. Other reason could be severe gum disease. It has to be examined visually and with radiographs if required to come to a diagnosis n treat accordingly. Consult your dentist to know the actual problem. Using a tongue cleaner for cleaning your tongue is absolutely fine and there is no issues with that.
