Hi, my son is 2 years old. We recently got his CBC test done. All parameters are within range except the below two. Please some suggest what does that mean? MCV - 72.2 Range : 75 - 87 RDW - 14.2 Range 11.6 - 14 Waiting for your reply.

Mild iron deficiency is common in all children under 3 years. Can give iron therapy for 3 months and recheck

MCV is mean cell volume so Red blood cell size is small along with higher Red cell distribution width (RDW) is indicative of iron deficiency. Get serum iron studies to confirm it.
