Can a doctor prescribe for 2 months
I was earlier prescribed Vortioxetine and ADHD medicines, but due to high cost I had to stop. I have already tried other generic SSRIs. Recently, I found a charitable trust that provides medicines as per prescription, but their rule is that if they give medicines once, they won’t give them again for the next two months. I want to restart treatment. Can a psychiatrist prescribe Vortioxetine and ADHD medicines for 2 months at a time so that I can get them from the trust?

Hello, Yes, psychiatrists can prescribe medicines like Vortioxetine and ADHD medications for a two-month duration at a time, depending on your clinical needs and stability. Many patients receive prescriptions for longer durations when continuity of treatment is important and affordability is an issue. However, ADHD medicines (like methylphenidate or amphetamines) are controlled substances, and in India their prescription duration can sometimes be restricted by regulations. This depends on the specific medicine and your treating psychiatrist’s clinical judgment.
Next Steps
👉 Discuss your financial situation openly with your psychiatrist- doctors often try to accommodate longer-duration prescriptions when needed. 👉 Carry all previous records and mention the charitable trust’s rule during your consultation. 👉 Ensure regular follow-ups (even tele consults) so that your treatment remains safe and effective.
Health Tips
Do not restart medicines on your own. Antidepressants and ADHD medicines need careful monitoring for dose adjustment and side effects. Most important is to continue the medication You can get these medications with a doctor for a few months followed by trust. Maintain follow up with a Psychiatrist with whom you can discuss these points along with your illness symptoms

Vortioxetine and ADHD medicines are prescription-only drugs, and psychiatrists usually provide them for a set duration depending on your clinical condition and safety needs. While some doctors may prescribe for 1-2 months at a time, follow-up is generally recommended to monitor response, adjust doses, and check for side effects.
Next Steps
Since you are planning to collect medicines from a charitable trust with a 2-month rule, it is best to openly discuss this with your treating psychiatrist. They can decide whether giving a 2-month prescription is safe and appropriate for you.
Health Tips
Do not restart or switch medicines on your own. Regular monitoring is very important with both antidepressants and ADHD medicines. Please continue treatment under medical supervision for best results.

Yes, psychiatrists can usually write a two-month prescription if they feel it’s safe for you. Tell your doctor openly about the trust’s rule and your financial limits. Be honest about your past response to Vortioxetine and ADHD meds so they weigh benefits and risks. What matters most is you don’t stop treatment suddenly—so let your psychiatrist guide the best plan around both your health and cost.

Yes, a psychiatrist can prescribe for 2 months at a time, provided that: 1)stability of Treatment If you are already stable on Vortioxetine and the ADHD medication (e.g., methylphenidate, atomoxetine, lisdexamfetamine depending on what you were prescribed), many psychiatrists are comfortable issuing a prescription covering 2 months. This is especially true if you have difficulty accessing medicines or if a charitable trust requires a longer duration script. 2) legal and Regulatory Aspects For non-controlled substances like Vortioxetine or Atomoxetine, a 2-month prescription is usually not a problem. For stimulants (like methylphenidate), rules may vary by country/state. In India, methylphenidate is a Schedule X drug, so some pharmacies and psychiatrists may prefer giving shorter (1-month) prescriptions to ensure monitoring. But technically, a psychiatrist can write a longer prescription if they feel it’s clinically safe. 3) charitable Trust Requirement Since the trust dispenses medicines only once in two months, your psychiatrist can write the prescription accordingly, mentioning “2 months’ supply” on the script. 4) follow-up Even if the prescription is for 2 months, your psychiatrist may still ask you to check in (online or in-person) before the next cycle, especially for ADHD medicines, because they require monitoring for efficacy and side effects.
