Breastfeeding Issue
Hi Doctors, I have a 6.5 month old baby boy and he recently started solids. I got viral parotitis a week back and couldn't eat well and hence my milk supply drastically got  reduced and a few days back my right breast got hard and lumpy which resolved after warm compressions and when my baby nursed. Now my left breast feels very heavy though I don't feel any lumps but definitely feels heavy, i tried pumping and hand expression too, not much milk is expressed and I don't think there is any clogged duct (no white blebs) my baby also wouldn't nurse that side (he is on formula now because of my low supply) I have applied ice packs and warm compressions, still I feel the heaviness. What else could be done to resolve this heaviness? Will I be able to up my milk supply once I start eating well? I used to exclusively breastfeed (direct BF+ pumped milk). Thank you.

Yes! Your breast milk supply will slowly increase once you get back to your previous pumping and feeding routine. Proper nutrition will also help. Include high protein foods and also things like methi seeds, oats, jeera which increase milk supply in your diet. With regard to breast heaviness, do you find any redness in the breast or any fever. It could mean a breast abscess. If the heaviness is not relieved with breast milk expression, get checked by a gynecologist to rule out any other cause.

Yes you can increase your milk production with proper diet and liquid intake. For lumps - is it red, warm and tender to touch? You will need few galatctogues ....
