Bony mallet finger thumb injury
Recently, left thumb injury and as per X ray confirmed bony mallet finger. Is it corrected by 5-6 weeks of normal splint use or it needs a surgical procedure!

Please post the X-ray…most of the mallet fingers are correctable with conservative treatment only like splinting…

A bony mallet finger needs strict splint use for 5 to 6 weeks to keep the finger straight. If healing occurs then physio can help regain movements later. But if no healing at end of 6 weeks or if the fragment is large and pulled apart then it will definitely need small surgical procedure.
Next Steps
Keep splint for 24 hours. Do not remove. Use ice for pain relief with medication for the same.
