It is not a serious condition, it looks like Caviar tongue which is a condition recognized by purplish veins located on the side of the tongue. Also veins are also normally visible as the mucosa of the tongue is thin. Although it is age related but in your case it must be due to the retainer which must be causing pressure on your tongue.
Next Steps
You must get your retainer checked and get it corrected if it is ill-fitting.

Given the age this does not seem a serious condition. Retainer and medicines may cause this. Visit MDS oral or maxillo facial surgeon or MDS oral pathologist if there is pain and swelling.
Next Steps
Visit MDS.
