Dear Patient,  A rodent bite (rat/mouse) while sleeping warrants **caution but not panic**. Here’s a structured approach:  --- ### **Immediate Actions:**  1. **Wound Care**:     - Wash with soap + water for 15 mins.     - Apply antiseptic (Betadine) + cover with sterile dressing.  2. **Infection Risks**:     - **Leptospirosis** (Fever, muscle pain in 5–14 days) → Needs antibiotics (Doxycycline).     - **Rat-Bite Fever** (Joint pain, rash) → Treatable with penicillin.     - **Tetanus**: Ensure your vaccination is up-to-date.  3. **Rabies Consideration**:     - Rodents **rarely transmit rabies**, but if the animal was behaving aggressively/erratically, consult for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).  --- ### **When to Seek Emergency Care?**  ⚠️ **Fever, redness/swelling at bite site, or muscle pain** → Urgent medical evaluation.  --- ### **Preventive Measures:**  ✔ **Rodent-Proof Your Home**: Seal entry points, use traps.  ✔ **Monitor Symptoms**: For 2 weeks post-bite.  **For personalized guidance, connect via WhatsApp**: **Eight Zero Zero Nine Eight Two One Three Three Two
