Bitten by a Rat
Hi Doctor, I got bitten by a rat on July 8th and didn't seek any treatment at that time. Fortunately, the wound has healed without any issues. However, I'm wondering if I should have taken a tetanus toxoid (TT) shot back then. Given the situation, would it be advisable to get a TT shot now? Looking forward to your guidance

Though late, but better to take shot of Tetanus toxoid.  If the cut by bite was a clear wound, then take ARV as well.

Dear Practo User. Thanks for sending across your query. A rat bite carries tetanus risk. Ideally, TT should be taken within 24–72 hours. Since it's been a few days, a TT shot is still advisable if not taken in the past 5 years—stay protected!

If you have received a Tetanus toxoid (TT) injection within the past 10 years, there is no need for another shot at this time. If not, then go for it.
