Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your son's situation. Bipolar disorder can cause mood swings, changes in sleep, and increased talkativeness, as you described. It's important to seek help from a mental health professional, such as a psychiatrist, who can evaluate him properly and provide the appropriate treatment. Medication, therapy, and lifestyle changes can help manage the symptoms effectively. Encourage him to get enough rest, avoid stress, and maintain a healthy routine. Support him with patience and understanding, and ensure he gets professional care as soon as possible to help stabilize his mood and improve his well-being.

I understand your concern. Although his diagnosis is not clearly mentioned, the symptoms you describe, lack of sleep, excessive talking, and rapid mood changes, are suggestive of a bipolar episode. This should be clearly communicated to his psychiatrist for prompt assessment and possible medication adjustment. In the meantime, ensure safety and supervision, keep the environment calm and low-stimulus, avoid arguments or confrontation, limit mobile use and caffeine, and encourage hydration and rest. Do not stop or change medications on your own. .

Health Tips
If his sleep does not improve or his restlessness increases, seek immediate medical care . With timely medical support and family care, bipolar symptoms can be effectively managed and stability can be restored.

Hi Bipolar is lot more of a biological problem. Hence the first line of treatment becomes medication. Once the symptoms have been settled then comes the issue of dealing the mental issues and hence therapy is required.
Next Steps
Both medication and therapy given in a consistent manner is the prescribed treatment for bipolar. If u have not taken consultation from the relevant professionals then u need to do that immediately.
Health Tips
Treatment adherence is extremely necessary because relapses especially in the early stages can be frequent and severe and need to be managed in terms of prevention rather than cure.

Hi, In bipolar disorder, sleep is not just rest. Sleep is medicine. When sleep breaks, the mind speeds up. Right now the most important thing is not debating diagnosis. It is stability and safety. First: If he hasn’t slept properly for more than 24–48 hours, this is urgent. Sleep deprivation can worsen mania quickly. He needs to see a psychiatrist as soon as possible. Medication to slow the brain and restore sleep is often necessary. This is not weakness. It is treatment. Second: Do not argue with him. When someone is manic, their brain is racing. Logic feels like an attack. Stay calm. Speak slowly. Keep sentences short. Reduce stimulation lights low, no loud TV, minimal phone. Third: Watch for red flags: Grand ideas (“I can do anything”) Irritability turning aggressive Risky behavior Talking about harm If those appear, seek emergency care immediately.
Next Steps
Right now, this is not a “character problem.” It is a brain state. When the brain is manic, it runs like an engine without brakes. Psychiatric appointment immediately. If he hasn’t slept properly for 1–2 nights, do not wait. Mania escalates fast. Medication to restore sleep is often the first and most important step. Sleep first. Therapy later. Reduce stimulation at home. Dim lights at night. No late phone use. No debates. No emotional conversations. Keep your tone slow and steady. Short sentences. Create a sleep structure tonight. Warm shower. Light food. Quiet room. No caffeine. Even if he says he’s not tired, the body needs routine. Watch safety closely. If he becomes aggressive, impulsive, or talks about harming himself or others emergency care. Do not manage severe mania alone.
Health Tips
Psychiatrist urgently Sleep is priority No arguing Calm voice, short sentences Dim lights at night No caffeine Limit phone use Watch for risky behavior Emergency if aggressive or no sleep 48 hrs You stay steady Stability first. Everything else later.
