Bad breath can be due to various reasons. It can be due to deposits in the teeth, presence of decayed tooth, dryness of mouth. It would be better if you visit your nearby dentist and get it clinically checked. Meantime you can use chlorhexidine mouth wash twice daily.
Health Tips
maintain oral hygiene. Brush twice daily and also clean your tongue with plastic tongue cleaner.

You were having habit of tobacco chewing. But if now you are not continuing this habit then reson for your bad breath is not tobacco. Generally there many reasons for bad breath like nose and throat problems, stomach problems, indigestion, diabetes, smoking, asthama and many other things like foods with offensive odour like onions , garlic and all. We need to clean our tongue everyday after brusing with a tongue cleaner which is easily available in the market. Because tongue coating in which bacteria are present are mainly responsible for bad breath. So you need to maintain your oral hygine.
Next Steps
Use mouth fresheners, and use chlorhexidine containing mouthwash 2 times in a day , 10 ml each time , without water and gargles for 20 to 30 seconds in mouth and then spit it. Use tongue cleaner to clean your tongue properly. Use mouthwash for 15 days. avoid foods with offensive odour.
Health Tips
and if you are having problem related to your gums if they are swollen or painfull or bleeding ...you might be having Pyorrhoea. so once go for checkup of your teeth and gums as pyorrhoea is also one of the main reason for bad breath

Pls attach a picture for better judgement. Make sure you don't have acidity, which causes such problem. Due to food deposition in teeth or any kind of gum infection. Long term use of some medication can also cause bad breath in mouth. Avoid food with strong odor. Use mouthwash once a day after meal for 2 weeks.  For the time being.
Next Steps
visit dentist for thorough Check up.
