Hello Sir, For long-standing back pain above the buttocks, an X-ray of the lumbosacral spine is usually advised. This X-ray helps in detecting issues like bone alignment problems, early arthritis, disc space changes, or any structural abnormality in the lower spine. However, please note that X-ray mainly shows bones — it will not clearly show soft tissues like muscles, nerves, or discs. For those, an MRI may sometimes be required if the pain persists or if there are nerve symptoms (like tingling, numbness, or weakness in legs). Since your pain has been coming and going for a year, it’s good you are getting it checked. Follow your doctor’s advice for the X-ray, and based on the report, further evaluation can be decided. I hope it helps you. For proper management and treatment, you can consult me, just go to my profile. WhatsApp for free consultation: nine one one nine two five five six nine nine

Hi I'm a pain specialist. Firstly we need to know the type of pain, is it at one place or spreading.  Do you get tingling,  is it sharp, does it go to your legs etc. Just by pointing out at the site of pain we cannot say what test, x ray or any other test is needed. You can get in touch

Yes friend you need to do an Xray. One can not say that 100% it will get conformed through an xray but its the first procedure of your treatment process. And 90% you will get some of confirmation through it..See you can tale a pain killer inj or tablet and got reliefed from pain. BUT its gonna completely be temporary relief . The pain will again come. So better let the doctor see why there is the pain so that you get a permanent relief

X Ray lumbosacral spine- A.p. and lat view. A MRI lumbosacral spine will show the problem in greater detail. Till then, avoid bending,  sit keeping the back straight and with support to back, sleep supine on a hard bed, avoid lucting or pushing heavy weights. Do hot compression,  apply diclofenac ointment,  2 to 3 times daily. Please share detailed history,  then I can guide you further for recovery.

The doctor has advised an X-ray of the lumbosacral spine (AP and lateral views). This type of X-ray can help detect common problems in the lower back such as changes in the bones, alignment issues, or signs of arthritis. However, some causes of back pain like muscle/ligament strain, nerve compression, or early disc problems may not always be visible on X-ray, and sometimes further tests like MRI are needed if symptoms persist.
Next Steps
Please follow up with your doctor after the X-ray for proper interpretation and next steps.
