Asymptomatic gallstone surgery
Hello Doctor, I am a 25-year-old female. I was diagnosed with appendicitis 50 days ago and remained untreated for 15 days. One month ago, I was admitted to the hospital with walled-off appendicitis and was treated with IV antibiotics. I was scheduled for surgery today to remove the appendix. During preparation, my doctor also suggested removing my gallbladder, as I have asymptomatic gallstones (accidentally found) and a family history (my mother had symptomatic gallstones). I have no symptoms related to gallstones — no pain, nausea after meals, or digestive issues. I am worried about long-term side effects of gallbladder removal and would like to know: 1. Is it necessary to remove my gallbladder now, even if it's asymptomatic? 2. Can I safely delay gallbladder surgery and remove it later only if symptoms develop? Please advise based on your experience. Thank you.

So asymptomatic gallstones can be removed if their is any positive history or any associated polyp, size >2.5cm Or multiple small calculi which might dislodge and cause jaundice. It is a daycare surgery.or u can be discharged the next day if no complications.hope this helps

If u have asymptomatic gallstones then u can delay the surgery, it’s not necessary at this time and do it later when symptomatic / electively. But always remember, Only treatment for gallstones is surgery.

Lap Cholecystectomy Not necessarily to be done with Appendectomy now It's safe to delay Even if symptoms develop you should consult before going for surgery, considering your young age
