Antidepressants in Leh (18000ft)
I have read online that I am not supposed to take antidepressants in high altitude as it thickens blood or something. I am on escitalopram 10mg since 3 months for anxiety. Please tell if i should continue taking it when I am in Leh, Ladakh.

Hi, Literature support in regards to effect of SSRI in preexisting anxiety at high altitude remains biased. Please consult your treating psychiatrist for clarity regarding it or you can consult me for the same thru practo scheduled consultation.

Hello there. Drugs like escitalopram which fall in the category of SSRI's are prone (rarely) to cause bleeding issues as opposed to clotting. So I don't see a reason as to why you should stop it. Kindly continue your medications and follow routine suggestions that are prescribed for high altitude travel. Wishing you a great trip.
