Generally plaster is kept for 6 weeks. But an up to date x-ray will give more information. Sometimes plaster can be removed, but you will have ankle stiffness and will find it difficult to walk easily. Also the ankle will be swollen for a few weeks. You will need a lot of physiotherapy to help improve the range of motion and gain the strength. Hope this helps. Dr Vinu Raj MBBS MRCS FRCS (Trauma&Orthopaedics) Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
