Whey protein issue

2022-06-25 12:36:44
Last year I gained 10kg due to hypothyroid so I started going to gym and they recommended me a whey protein powder with protein content of 32g. Within a month I started suffering hair loss so I stopped using it for 3 weeks . Then I noticed hair loss was comparatively less. Again When I started taking the protein powder I was again losing my hair so I completely stopped it. I am currently going to gym but I am very skeptical about taking protein powder . So my question here is am I supposed to not take protien powder as I have hypothyroid?

Hi It's great you joined gym, but you don't have to take protein powder. You can easily fulfill your protein requirements through natural foods. Try to lose weight but try to focus on nutritional requirements of the body. Take sprouts, oats, legumes and lentils. Include more of vegetables and fruits in your diet. Use sendha salt instead of Tata salt. Try to increase your physical activity and cut down on processed foods, bakery products. May be you are using whey protein isolate which increases testosterone level and it causes hair loss . Try to take whey protein concentrate if required other than better to hv protein through natural resources.

Try to have protein via natural sources. You can fulfill your protein requirements by having paneer, curd, milk, tofu , and in case you are non vegetarian, you may have lean protein like chicken, eggs . Soyabean or soya products I would not advise you since you are suffering from hypothyroidism and it may aggravate the condition.
