Your Hb is low, and the low serum iron suggests possible iron deficiency. It would be useful to check *serum
ferritin* before starting iron, as it tells us about your body's iron stores.
If iron deficiency is confirmed, oral iron is usually the first choice.
The dose and duration should be decided based on your complete CBC, ferritin and the possible cause of anemia. Repeat Hb/ferritin after treatment to check improvement.
Your
B12 level is normal. Continue
vitamin D supplementation as advised by your doctor.
Next Steps
As for how to take Iron tablets, preferably on an empty stomach with water or a
vitamin-C-rich drink. Keep a 2-hour gap from tea/coffee, milk/dairy,
calcium supplements and antacids. If it causes stomach upset, take it after food.
Health Tips
Include dal, chana/rajma, soy/tofu, green leafy vegetables, sesame seeds, nuts and iron-fortified foods. Add lemon/amla/guava/orange with meals to improve iron absorption.
Diet helps, but established iron-deficiency anemia often needs supplementation as well.
