Vertigo problem

2024-09-12 11:00:05
Hello doctors, he has been feeling vertigo since this morning. It only happens when he lies flat or on sides, but not when he lie in the opposite position. He has taken DSR medication, but it hasn’t helped. Could this be related to a nerve issue or something to do with gas?

It can be BPPV as it is positional vertigo. Consult ENT specialist for the further management

No ,its not due to gas or any nerve issues. It is probably BPPV, you can consult an ENT doctor for the best treatment. Need not worry, not a serious issue.
Next Steps
consult a doctor ,better consult offline. You will be alright.
Health Tips
Avoid positions in which it aggravates the severity of dizziness/vertigo.

It is better to get a check up done by an ENT Specialist and take the treatment after that.

Certainly! Here’s a modified version of the response that includes a consultation offer: --- Diagnosis Consideration: - Given the positional vertigo (only when lying flat or on sides), it suggests benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). - Other differentials could include vestibular neuritis or Ménière's disease, though these typically present with more prolonged symptoms and associated auditory issues. Management Approach: 1. Confirm Diagnosis:    - A clinical examination can be done, particularly using the Dix-Hallpike maneuver to assess for BPPV. This involves positioning the patient in a way that elicits the vertigo and looking for nystagmus.    2. Medications:    - Consider using betahistine 16 mg twice daily or cinnarizine 25 mg as needed for symptomatic relief.    - Stugeron Plus contains cinnarizine and dimenhydrinate, which is effective for vertigo and can be continued. 3. Non-Pharmacological:    - The Epley maneuver is the first-line treatment for BPPV and can be done in the clinic or taught to the patient for home use.    - avoid sudden head movements or lying flat until symptoms improve. 4. Referral:    - If symptoms persist despite initial management, consult with an ENT specialist for further evaluation and vestibular function testing. 5.  BPPV is a common, benign condition and often resolves with proper maneuvers or treatment.

It sounds like the vertigo could be positional, possibly related to Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), which is common and linked to inner ear issues rather than nerves or gas. However, if symptoms persist or worsen, consult a doctor for a proper evaluation and treatment, which may include physical maneuvers or medications.
