Stomach ache due to acidity

2026-10-26 14:29:45
I recently had some outside food and due to gas and acidity my stomach started paining a lot since Saturday and is still continuing till now. The pain is not continuous but rather happening in a discrete manner. Sometimes it is peak and then it goes down. It gets more worsened during eating or running. I am also on medication prescribed by my dermatologist for fungal infection in nails. I am having Itrasys CF 100 mg capsule since 3 weeks as a part of course duration. If there is some possible relief medicine which I can take (it does not interact with the current medication going on) please help

* Upper abdominal pain worsened by eating may be due to gastritis, peptic ulcer disease or other abdominal conditions. * Itraconazole (Itrays CF) can cause gastrointestinal adverse effects and, rarely, liver injury. The medication history needs review.
Next Steps
Usually for gastritis we will generally suggest proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole, pantoprazole or anti histamines like ranitidine etc,but since you are taking itraconazole it interacts with these drugs and will decrease the effect of itraconazole. So better take syrup sucralfate 10 ml twice a day before food and wait for 3-4 days,if not resolved book a consultation or visit your personal physician
Health Tips
-avoid taking spicy foods -visit urgently if you developed any fever, increasing pain intensity, vomiting, swelling etc -do not self medicate without proper advice -drink tender coconut, coconut milk, fresh fruit juices (not citrus fruits) and eat easily digestible foods Contact me anytime on Practo for further consultation

Hello, Your symptoms of intermittent abdominal pain that worsens while eating or running may be associated with gastritis, indigestion, or gastrointestinal irritation. However, since the pain has continued for several days, it should not automatically be attributed to acidity. You mentioned taking Itrasys CF 100 mg for a fungal nail infection. If this medication contains itraconazole, it is important to know that itraconazole can cause abdominal discomfort, nausea, and occasionally liver-related complications. Persistent abdominal pain while taking oral antifungal treatment requires medical evaluation, particularly to exclude medication-related adverse effects.
Next Steps
Consult a general physician because the abdominal pain is significant and persistent. Confirm the active ingredient of Itrasys CF 100 mg and inform your prescribing dermatologist about the symptoms before taking the next dose. Your physician may recommend liver function tests (ALT, AST, bilirubin, ALP) because itraconazole can occasionally affect liver function. Avoid starting omeprazole, pantoprazole, or other acid-reducing medicines without medical advice, as these can reduce the absorption of conventional itraconazole capsules. Depending on the examination, additional investigations may be necessary to exclude other abdominal conditions. Eat smaller meals and avoid spicy, oily foods until the cause is identified.
Health Tips
Avoid alcohol, unnecessary painkillers, and self-medication with multiple acidity medicines. If your medication contains itraconazole, the formulation matters, as conventional capsules and newer formulations may have different food and acidity-related instructions. Stop itraconazole and seek medical assessment if you develop severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, yellowing of the eyes, dark urine, pale stools, or marked weakness. My recommendation: Rather than adding an acidity medicine immediately, have your abdominal pain assessed and the antifungal medication reviewed. Liver function testing is particularly important if itraconazole is confirmed. With appropriate evaluation, the cause can usually be identified and treated effectively. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Acidity from outside food usually causes exactly this kind of on-and-off burning or cramping pain, worse with eating or running around. It's unlikely to be related to your nail infection tablet.
Next Steps
Smaller, more frequent meals, avoiding spicy, oily or very acidic food for a few days, and not lying down right after eating usually help. A pharmacist or your doctor can suggest an antacid that's safe alongside your current antifungal course.
Health Tips
See a doctor if the pain gets worse, you start vomiting, or it hasn't eased in two to three days.
