Two weeks ago I had a mild sprain in my ankle I could walk and it was fine I had a very mild discomfort walking, it fully healed in under a week, but last night as I was walking upstairs my ankle gave out and now I have a medium to severe pain when I bend or put pressure on my ankle, it doesn't hurt to move my toes or if I squeeze it

Dear patient.  Bone or ligament better give six weeks time to heal. My advice will be se ab orthopaedic consultant and  seeing ur ankle if he advice a plaster go for it.  As the rest and care in plaster is best line of treatment for sprained ankle though its cumbersome but that cumbersomeness is just for six weeks but its worth than the nagging residual pain which stays if u take ur treatment plan lightly

Hi I think you have your ligaments torn in your ankle. Initially it was torn and you didn't give proper protection and rest so healing didn't take place properly and now this injury has aggravated the ligament tear.
Next Steps
RICE - Rest, ice, compression with crepe bandage and elevation till the swelling comes down then followed by walking cast for 3 weeks if you want proper healing and it shouldn't come back

You need to protect your ankle. Use some brace. Rest, ice, elevation. If pain persists beyond one week xray and mri.
