Sharp pain After Rct

2023-08-20 12:40:22
Hi I had undergone root canal treatment and the dentist has completed the RCT in the evening After the RCT i had sever pain in the night and morning . Took a pain killer and then it subsided. Again the pain I have Which is unbearable. The dentist says it's a post root canal pain And asked me to continue the antibiotic and painkiller for 2 days more . He says the pain is normal . But I feel the pain from the tooth . And I'm a smoker so the dentist had told me to not smoke . . But how is it connected to this pain in the tooth Is it because the dentist has done a bad Root canal treatment? Should I change the dentist.

After a root canal treatment, it's not uncommon to experience some discomfort or pain for a short period of time. This is often referred to as post-operative pain and is usually a normal part of the healing process. The pain could be due to inflammation around the treated tooth or from the surrounding tissues. Smoking can potentially have an impact on the healing process. Smoking can reduce blood flow, slow down healing, and increase the risk of complications after dental procedures. It's possible that the dentist advised you to avoid smoking to promote better healing and reduce the risk of post-treatment complications. If you're concerned about the pain or have doubts about the treatment, it's a good idea to communicate openly with your dentist. You could discuss your symptoms, ask questions about the treatment, and express any concerns you may have. If the pain continues to be severe or worsens, it's advisable to seek a second opinion from another dentist to ensure that the treatment was done correctly and that there are no complications. Keep in mind that professional advice from a qualified dentist who can examine your specific situation is essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment recommendations. If you're uncertain about your current dentist's approach, seeking a second opinion can provide you with peace of mind and a better understanding of your situation.

First of all stop smoking.. It can affect your rct, secondly there may be the possibility of rct failure and that does not mean your dentist is bad.. There are so many accessory canals present which is only seen under microscope What you can do is. First take antibiotics and stop smoking.. And if pain occurs again. You can go for re rct with same doc or change it.. And if that not works.. You have to go for extraction.

Sometimes pain in the rct completed tooth remains for a duration of 3 to 4 days...this is because the body tends to adapt to the newly treated tooth. Please complete your antibiotic course and have patience. If the tooth has been treated well with all the protocols properly, the pain should subside eventually.
Next Steps
Complete your antibiotic course and have some patience. The pain should go off. If at all the intensity of pain stays the same then please visit your dentist and get x-ray done.

Pain even after completing the RCT may occur at times. Follow your prescription as advised! If however you have pain in biting over that tooth, get your occlusion relieved by the dentist. Smoking though ek not have an immediate impact over healing.
Next Steps
If the pain persists beyond a week get your tooth re-checked

Post operative pain can be there for 3-7 days. Take the medication as prescribed by your doctor. Do get an x ray done and share.
