Severe vitamin b12 deficiency

2026-09-04 00:39:51
My blood report of Vit B12 is only 63 which is very low from normal. The only symptom is dry lips and seldom thigh and back pain . And occasional gas problems Hemoglobin also casts 11.2 mg with normal MCV .i started neuroday 1500 mcg tablet My query is Is it dangerous with such vitamin levels or What steps should I take?

Your B12 at 63.6, well below the normal range of 190 to 824, does explain the dry lips and body pain you're describing. Your liver report itself looks normal, so that is not adding to the picture.
Next Steps
Please go back to whoever is treating you to confirm the right strength and length of B12 correction for your case, since you are already taking it.
Health Tips
Very low B12 can affect nerves if left uncorrected for long, so this is worth following up properly rather than adjusting the dose yourself.

Next Steps
Vitamin B12 of 63 is markedly low and needs treatment, but the cause must also be identified. Deficiency can cause anaemia, tongue soreness, numbness or balance problems; neurological symptoms should not be ignored. Do not rely only on dietary supplements without medical review.
Health Tips
See a physician soon for CBC, folate and assessment of the cause (diet, absorption or medicines); injections may be needed depending on the findings. If you have breathlessness, worsening numbness or gait trouble, seek urgent care. You can book a consultation with me with the report.

Take supplements for deficiency or you can try injectable also for rapid recovery.

Vitamin B12 level of 63.6 pg/mL is severely low While this is a significant deficiency that requires attention, it is manageable with proper medical care. Severely low B12 levels can contribute to nerve discomfort (such as thigh or back pain), mild anemia (hemoglobin 11.2 g/dL), and gastrointestinal symptoms like gas or dry lips. Continuing self-medication alone without medical supervision is not recommended, as the root cause of the deficiency needs evaluation.
Next Steps
Consult a general physician or hematologist in person for a complete clinical evaluation to identify the cause of the deficiency (such as dietary intake issues, absorption problems, or pernicious anemia). Discuss treatment modalities with your doctor; severe B12 deficiencies often require an initial course of intramuscular B12 injections to rapidly restore body stores before transitioning to oral supplements like Neuroday. Repeat blood tests (Vitamin B12, complete blood count, and liver function) after 4–8 weeks of prescribed treatment to monitor recovery.
Health Tips
Do not discontinue or alter supplement dosages without consulting your doctor. If you experience worsening neurological symptoms—such as severe numbness, tingling, balance difficulty, or extreme fatigue—seek immediate medical evaluation.

Needs proper replacement and evaluation of the cause, so please consult rather than self treating.
