Hi I'm 22 years old male. I've been on anxiety medication since one year. Since last night my body freezes for few second while sleeping. This used to happen a lot before and it was normal but after so long it has started again. Is it normal? Is this sleep paralysis?

It sounds like you might be experiencing sleep paralysis, which is a temporary inability to move or speak while falling asleep or waking up. During an episode, you might feel awake and aware of your surroundings but unable to move your body. This can be quite unsettling and is often accompanied by a sense of fear or pressure on the chest12. Sleep paralysis can be linked to various factors, including stress, irregular sleep schedules, and certain medications2. Since you’ve been on anxiety medication, it’s possible that changes in your stress levels or sleep patterns could be contributing to these episodes. Here are a few tips to help manage and potentially reduce the occurrence of sleep paralysis: Maintain a regular sleep schedule: Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. Practice good sleep hygiene: Create a relaxing bedtime routine and ensure your sleep environment is comfortable. Manage stress: Techniques such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or yoga can help reduce stress levels. Avoid stimulants: Limit caffeine and alcohol intake, especially before bedtime3. If these episodes continue or worsen, it might be a good idea to discuss them with your healthcare provider. They can help determine if your medication or other factors might be contributing and suggest appropriate adjustments or treatments. How have you been managing your anxiety overall? Are there any specific triggers you’ve noticed recently?
