if the sufficient space is ther for performing root canal treatment then go for it . iff not  then you can get it extracted .

It can be because of wisdom tooth or the tooth immediately in front of the wisdom molar. This will be confirmed by an x ray and clinical examination, along with your symptoms. If the the doctor is doing r t for the wisdom tooth. Go for the rct of wisdom tooth. Nothing is best than that. If he fails to do so then u can even go for the extraction of the third molar. No isssues. But all the procedure should be under antibiotic cover

Wisdom tooth rct is difficult to perform, some dentist prefer saving this tooth whereas some prefer to extract it. Get rct done primarily, if it fails later u still have a chance of getting it xtracted, but if it does not fail it will support ur bone for quite a long time

Wisdom teeth are generally better if they are removed. However you may be requiring a root canal in the adjacent tooth if it is affected. Need to check your X-rays before advising you appropriately
