Intimacy during pregnancy

2026-01-27 06:46:57
Hello Doctors, I have completed 15 weeks of pregnancy (natural conception). My NT scan and penta marker test results are normal, and my placenta position is posterior. I would like to know whether it is safe to have physical intimacy with my partner at this stage. If yes, could you please advise until which month of pregnancy it is generally considered safe? Thank you for your guidance.

It is usually safe , but its better to be cautious and careful and always report to the hospital in case of emergency such as cramps or profuse bleeding

Hi, how are you? From what you have shared, so far your pregnancy is normal and placenta seems in normal position, intercourse can continue until late pregnancy (40 weeks) as long as you are comfortable and there is no pain or bleeding. If you need further advice, you can connect with me. Thanks.

Since your placenta position is not low lying,  it is safe to have intimacy with your partner till term depending upon your comfort levels and other comorbidities or risk factors.
Next Steps
Make sure that your cervical length is also adequate.

By the details provided by you, this seems to be a normal pregnancy. But other details like history of bleeding in pregnancy, previous premature delivery or current risk of premature delivery (like short cervix on the scan) will also be necessary before commenting on the safety of sexual intercourse. In case of a normal pregnancy without any risk factors, sexual intercourse is safe. Kindly consult with your gynecologist (who is well aware of all your history and risk factors) regarding your concerns.
