Hi.. One session is not enough. Any therapeutic treatments require more time to be effective, compared to medicinal treatments.
Health Anxiety/ Hypochondria is caused by various factors including but not limited to,
1. Recent health issues in family, self, or close
contacts.
2. Excessive academic, career, social, emotional,
or financial stress.
3. Setting goals and targets that are unachievable
in the given time frame.
4. Poor lifestyles which impacts sleep, exercise,
diet, etc.
5. Suffering from trauma, bereavement, etc.
If you are serious about your treatment, go with a mindset of 15-20 sessions minimum, spread on weekly basis. Switching doctors/professionals is also a symptom of hypochondria/health anxiety.
Therapeutic treatments require some amount of efforts on the part of individuals, to be effective. They do not have any side effects and work naturally. But they can't be used as a quick fix, like medicines which obviously have side effects. Medications are supposed to be used when they are necessary in physical or mental health treatments. Unfortunately, we live in a world that is okay popping a pill for sleep, rather going for 1.5 km walk every day, to have the same amount of quality sleep or do simple breathing/meditation exercises for 25 minutes each day or have a healthy & timely diet daily.
Psychotherapy/Counselling takes time but addresses the issues from the root. Change in behaviour requires willingness to change as well.
Next Steps
Consult a Psychologist and stick to your treatment for 15-20 sessions minimum.
CBT, Psycho education, Desensitisation, Exposure and Response Prevention may be used.
