Dog scratch
My mother got a scratch from the dog's nail. But there is only one line scratch & blood didn't come out like light skin scratch. She washes hands from soap for about 10-15mins.
Is there any chances of rabies? And we can do now? Also she has taken titnus injection right away.
Please help

You were right to wash the area promptly. A dog scratch can be a rabies exposure even when it does not bleed, if it has damaged the skin. A tetanus injection does not protect against rabies. The need for rabies prevention depends on the actual contact and previous vaccination history; it cannot be safely ruled out from this description.

Good that u wash with soap for 10 to 15 minutes immediately ,for your question risk depends on _ was it a pet / stray / vaccinated / not
Did dog nail has saliva, is there any break or abrasion
Since u already washed pls visit to your nearest Hospital ,Doctor will check the scratch marks and decide if Anti rabies vaccine needed. If needed complete all doses on time Don't delay vaccination decision is time sensitive ,Tetanus injection is good but Tetanus does not protect against rabies both are different

Hi there. Washing the scratch thoroughly with soap and water and receiving the tetanus booster were crucial first steps.
Because dogs regularly lick their paws, a scratch breaking the outer layer of skin falls under Category II exposure even without visible bleeding. If the dog is a stray or its rabies vaccination status is unconfirmed, initiating the Anti-Rabies Vaccine (ARV) series promptly is the standard medical protocol.

*if the skin is broken/contaminated with saliva, even if there is little or no bleeding ,it will transmit rabies

If it was just a scratch, there are minimal to no chances of Rabies.
But Rabies vaccine is great for prevention. She should get the shots for prevention. It is not a big deal. But the disease is. Rabies won’t give you any chance of curing. So prevention is the only option.

Even a minor scratch can transmit rabies if the skin was broken and saliva contaminated it. Washing with soap and running water for 15 minutes is correct. If the dog is healthy and available, observe it for 10 days; if stray, unavailable, ill or the skin was broken, start rabies assessment promptlyânever wait for symptoms. As the tetanus shot was 8 years ago, a booster is generally advisable for a contaminated scratch if the primary series is complete.
