Dear Patient, Your recent fasting blood glucose levels of 117 mg/dL, 96 mg/dL, and 91 mg/dL, along with HbA1c readings of 5.6% and 5.3%, suggest that your blood sugar levels are within normal ranges. According to the World Health Organization, normal fasting blood glucose concentrations are between 70 mg/dL (3.9 mmol/L) and 100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L). When fasting blood glucose is between 100 to 125 mg/dL (5.6 to 6.9 mmol/L), changes in lifestyle and monitoring glycemia are recommended. If fasting blood glucose is 126 mg/dL (7 mmol/L) or higher on two separate tests, diabetes is diagnosed. WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION To maintain optimal blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of developing diabetes, consider the following dietary recommendations: Increase Fiber Intake: Incorporate more beans, legumes, fruits with edible skins, and whole grains like quinoa and barley into your diet. HEALTHLINE Choose Whole Grains Over Refined Carbohydrates: Opt for whole grain breads, cereals, and pastas instead of refined versions. WEBMD Incorporate Healthy Fats: Include sources of unsaturated fats such as avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil. DUKE HEALTH DIABETES Eat Lean Proteins: Consume lean meats, fish, poultry, and plant-based proteins like tofu and legumes. CLEVELAND CLINIC HEALTH Limit Sugary Foods and Beverages: Reduce intake of foods high in sugar, such as sweets, desserts, and sugary drinks. DUKE HEALTH DIABETES Control Portion Sizes: Be mindful of portion sizes to avoid overeating, which can impact blood sugar levels. DUKE HEALTH DIABETES Regular Physical Activity: Engage in regular exercise to help maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
